Original window sticker for my miata! Perks of buying a car from the original owner I guess. It’s maddening to see the included equipment: Limited Slip Differential. When the car currently sits with an open diff. But anyways, cool to have the window sticker!

Also, I did an experiment to see if keeping my windows shut at home would keep it cooler in my room than leaving them open all day.

Kinja'd!!!

Experiment definitely failed!! It quickly dropped down to 79 with the windows open and fans on. So I certainly won’t be doing that again. My peanut butter cups I had on my desk are liquid and I’ve got a nice sauna for a bed.

It being 1900 and the sun is still up, I hope that will drop some more.

Forecast is for this to be the hottest Summer since records have been kept. Securing a window A/C before they are scarce might be a good idea. Air temp is easy to remedy. Every object in a room radiating +100 F is not.

I think the original failed and when the original owner had it replaced, they installed whatever.

Ha! I got the trump thank me for sending you money letter yesterday, and immediately added to the skeleton shrine (framed!) Have been running my cooler since first day of hot, and house has yet to go over 70, mornings below 60 despite mid 80s  by day. All my plaster walls downright cold to the touch!

Yeah, that. The shop charged for an lsd and didn’t tell the owner is my guess. Although I couldn’t tell from the receipt . It seemed expensive for an open diff but the lsds don’t come cheap at all probably if a shop is sourcing it.

Yeah I want to build a simple diy swamp cooler since it's dry enough here.

I can't put a window unit in here, that's for sure. I could do some sort of portable thing but I think I'm best off with a diy swamp cooler since it's dry enough. The month of June will be a relief here though since it's always a thick marine layer. It'll be rougher in September when the Santa Ana winds roll in. But that's when the swamp cooler would also work best due to the single digit humidity levels.

Thankfully I have another '01 with an lsd sitting around as a broken rust bucket. I just have to figure out if the diff is rusted out or not and see about swapping it eventually. At least that car leaked so much oil that the whole bottom was generally coated and kept from rusting there too much.

I would love to meet the original owner of mine. Ls trim, sport package with larger brakes and lsd , no abs . Hell yeah

Well yeah that’s exactly how this one was built along with my rusty one. I just liked that package so much that I prioritized buying another one sans the rust. I've gotta get a diff and I've gotta rebuild the engine. But that's just fun projects I guess once I get started on it.

Or it could have been,

“You have the one kind of thingie go rumble rumble and we could only get this other kind of thingie yada yada no more rumble rumble and it’s $5 less .”

“When can you have it ready?”

I just called the shop the previous (not original) owner got the timing belt done to see if they did the water pump too,  and they have no record of either. Looks like I'm joining in in that rebuild party.

Well yeah people gonna cheap. Considering some of the other dodgy repairs ive found, its not that surprising. All I care is that I got a rust free car without having to spend more than $4k. Number of miles and botched repairs are mere speedbumps.

Definitely. Depending upon what shop replaced the rear end, they themselves may not even have known what they were installing, or not worried about it. Or figured the customer would never know the difference. You could take it to a gear shop and get the rear end upgraded while still in the car.

ha! Uhh, it’s 44F here right now. It’s supposed to be a balmy 61 today, and I’m ... excited for that? It is sunny, which makes a massive difference in May of course.

That is one of the things I would like to order from the Corvette Museum but they charge a bit too much for me to get it at this moment .
